Postcards Top 10
Travel Safety Tips
- Book your vacation with a reputable travel agent.
You’ll have a successful trip and won’t be left
to fend for yourself if something unexpected happens.
- Make copies of important papers.
Duplicate your itinerary, passport and any
pertinent medical papers, and pass them along to friends and family.
- Use secure tags for
luggage identification.
Many suitcases look similar, so make sure yours is easy to identify. Print your
name and address clearly on each tag.
- Carry two major credit cards
in separate places.
If one card is lost or stolen, you will have another to use in an emergency.
Don’t forget to memorize your code numbers.
- Don’t carry large sums of cash.
Travelers checks can be replaced and are widely
accepted throughout the world.
- Conceal your valuables
(cash, credit cards, travelers checks) in a money belt or other safe place. This
is a good practice when traveling.
- Learn some important phrases
when traveling in a foreign country. Practice asking for a taxi, bathroom,
telephone and bank.
- Prepare list of emergency addresses/telephone
numbers for your destination. When traveling
abroad, know how to contact the American Embassy, local law enforcement,
hospital, airlines and hotel—your travel agent can provide this information.
- Don’t leave valuables in your hotel room.
Most hotels will not be responsible for losses, so ask to leave your passport
and other valuables in the hotel safe.
- Don’t wear expensive jewelry
while traveling. Leave the glitzy goods at home where they’ll be safe, and have
fun shopping for vacation trinkets.
